EU stands by Albanian people after the earthquake, Xhaçka grateful for life!

780 experts from 14 countries, mainly from the European Union, part of the Civil Protection Mechanism, arrived in Albania a few hours after the earthquake to assist Albanian Search and Rescue (SAR) teams.

At the time that SAR operations were completed, some of them are proceeding to buildings inspections damaged by the earthquake.

The Defense Minister Olta Xhaçka thanked the Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Albania, Ambassador Luigi Soreca, for the support given just at the first moments after the tragedy, enabling the activation of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism and together with the United Nations sent to our country a team of experts led by Peter Glerum.

Earthquake aftermaths, Xhaçka: heavy costs, but no one will stay homeless

Dear citizens,

I know this morning finds us all more tired than the day before, because there are still nights of anxiety as a result of the aftershocks, which were felt even few minutes ago. However, the good news is that despite the situation is still active, the intensity of shocks has a noticeable downward trend, and hopefully all these are signs that this seismic situation is coming to an end.

These days have been really tough and difficult. There have been tragic days that have proved us all, and I am very proud that Albanians, everywhere, in the affected areas, and not, in the region and anywhere in the world, passed the test in the most dignified way. They have gained the admiration of the world with their solidarity and cooperation.

Dear citizens,

This is the most difficult communication that an Albanian state official can ever wish for.

The earthquake of November 26th was a really serious event. It has caused fear and anxiety, sensations that are felt every time the Earth trembles, as it did a few minutes ago. It has caused massive damage, which will take time to recover but we will recover. The dwellings will be rebuilt; businesses will restart; life will resume for all citizens. You will have all our support, all the support of the Albanian state, international partners, Albanian citizens, to overcome this difficult situation and to start from scratch.
